Can't subscribe to Minecraft realm

When I go to subscribe to a realm I get a message saying, "sorry we were unable to complete your realm purchase. Maybe check your internet connection?"

does anyone know a way to fix this? I've talked to both Minecraft support and Apple support and so far there's been no solution that works.
