Unable to connect to Realms despite good Internet cocnnection

Realms are not displayed in the list of available worlds to play even if Internet connection is good enough to load the marketplace and Microsoft account. The initial menu screen loads normally.

Clicking Play and viewing available worlds displays a gray box containing text that says "Unable to load realms". This issue has been encountered on both Xbox Series X and PC. This issue resolves itself by completely closing Minecraft and restarting the game.

Attached is a picture of the startup menu as it looks both when Realms won't load and when they will. Also attached is the menu viewed after clicking Play. The "Unable to load Realms" message appears where the two Realms worlds are shown.
