Downloading world from realm loses items

I downloaded my world from my Minecraft bedrock realm. But after opening the newly downloaded world, I spawn in as if I'm a brand new player. After closing and reopening the world, I am where is was downloading the world and have all my stuff. But if I leave and reopen again, it goes back to the new player. And it alternates like that over and over.
