Chest contents disapear upon breaking a chest in realms

When a double chest has items in it and you break the chests you LOSE EVERYTHING! This is sooo reproducible that I just did it 3 times in a row, losing everything in the chests each time.

Why? This is a major bug and has cost me and my friend a lot of resources when we went to move our chests.

A fix would be greatly appreciated.

This is happening on Minecraft 10 edition in realms.
