Thorns disconnects everybody on realm

I’m having an issue with thorns with my friend. My friend and I have thorns 3 on our netherite armor, when I hit him it disconnects all of us and takes 5-30 mins for the realm to start back up. When it starts back up it loads to a previous save, I haven’t gotten back on for another disconnect issue.
