shuckers not appearing at spawn from end return portal

shulker in mine cart in end return portal, break cart and shulker disappears. No shulker at world spawn, no shuckers on centre island. Tried again and got the same results.

notes:

shulkers went through portals to the centre island fine and appeared on the obsidian slab.  

mine carts were at world spawn after breaking
