In game chat no longer functions

I can open chat and type words and when I press enter to return to the game I see the words in the text box next to my gamertag. However, none of the other players in the realm see my message. 

Also, when a player enters or leaves the realm the chat box no longer shows this,

This has been occurring since at least 1.17
