Crossplay from pc to ps4 doesn't work

I have a friend who is on ps4 and when he is in a world with multiplayer enabled I cannot see him in the tab 'friends'

When I'm in a world he can see me but when he tries to join it says 'timed out' for him.

So I'm wondering why pc to ps4 doesn't work.
