When entering the pause menu the game doesn't actually pause

I will press the plus button and leave to go do something but when I come back I will either be in the process of being attacked or already dead with no way to find where I was. I am unsure if this actually is a bug or some trolly intentional design (which would just be mean). So, please fix this so you can pause and be perfectly safe
