Experience orb bug

Ok so on my Minecraft world I was breeding sheep and I was playing around with the experience orb I got, and it  kept following me and then after a bit I decided to just collect the experience orb, but I it wouldn’t go into my experience bar. I was literally standing on it, and it was just acting like I wasn’t there.

How to reproduce:

1. Throw a bottle of enchanting at something. 
2. Back away from the experience orbs so they follow you. 
3. Keep doing this for a bit, then collect the experience orb.

Observed results: The experience orb does not go into your experience bar.

Expected results: The experience orb does go into your experience bar.
