Connection times out when trying to join cross-platform world

My friend and I have a Minecraft world together. She is the host of the game and is on a PS4 and I have a switch. The connection was working fine this morning but since 3pm it seems to have reverted to the issue lots of people were having before the recent hotfix. When I try to join the game I get the "connecting to multiplayer game" screen for several minutes and then the loading screen suddenly dissapears and I get a message saying the connection timed out and I am unable to connect to the world. We have both tried resetting our games and consoles and I still get the same error. Thankfully my whole switch isn't freezing anymore but this is still frustrating as it was working perfectly fine this morning. Please help!
