Hopper Minecarts despawn upon leaving world / realm

My creeper farm has been broken twice due to the disappearance of my hopper minecarts. I play on my friends realm, and was the only person playing both times that this happened. I’ve had to make new hoppers and minecarts which aren’t terribly cheap
