"Loading resource packs" takes over 4 minutes

After the games starts and a new world is created, or an existing world is selected to load, the game displays a message that says "Loading resource packs" for over four minutes; then it displays "Generating world" for a few seconds (less than 1 minute) and the games starts as expected.  I only use the 'out-of-the-box' resource pack and have never loaded another.

This started after I received an update on 11 August, 2020.  Prior to that the "Loading resources packs" message was displayed for 1 minute or less.

Version of the game shown on the console is 1.16.2003.70.
