Strange Crafting Recipes

Some of the crafting recipe has strange placement of materials, for example when crafting a pickaxe:

St | St | B
B | B | B

M = Materials (Wood, Cobblestone, Iron, Gold, Diamond)
St = Stick
B = Blank
