Armor Stand does not give item back

when changing what the armor stand holds it doesn't give back item is was holding previously and just disappears i had a diamond sword and switched it by accident with paper and it didn't even give my sword back it just disappeared i'm upset cause i had hood high tier enchantments i hope you guys look into that before it happens to someone else
