Minecraft Freezes after closing sign

I accidentally placed a sign on the wrong block, so I quickly exited out of the sign. However, after doing this, my game froze. When trying to go to the home menu, my entire console froze. I had to wait a couple minutes for my console to shut down, since the controller and power button did nothing.
