Cannot log in to account.

My son has minecraft installed on his tablet. He upgraded to 1.16.20 and was logged out of minecraft. He now can't log in to his account- We get "We tried to sign in to your Microsoft Account but something went wrong." Or if you click on "Sign in for free" it says "Signing in with your Microsoft Account..." and a wavy line occurs and never goes away.
