Pressing home button while playing Minecraft bricks console

After saving and quitting out of a Realm, I pressed the home button so I can close the application and turn off my Switch. However, right after I pressed the home button, my entire console froze. My controller did not do anything and the power button did not do anything. After a couple of minutes of waiting, the Switch turns off. When I turn on the console, it simply says, “Application closed due to an error.” Then everything goes back to normal.
