After install of update halts unfinished multiplayer games can't be played either outdated client or offers LAN game

The game updated, but the update appeared to stop at 98% . Still the game starts in single player,but when Itry to join a multiplayer game it either says it's an out of date client or offers a LAN game which is not something we are set up to do.
