Pets despawn

for some reason even though I put a name tag on an animal, or if it’s a horse A name tag, armour and a saddle and I put them in a small fenced area THEY DESPAWN. I’ve had so many heart breaks of losing my pets in Minecraft lol. I haven’t heard of anyone that deals with this glitch so I’m just confused. Refreshing doesn’t work btw
