End gateways put you strait into the void

I had just gotten an elytra and decided to head back after putting it and other valuables in my ender chest. I hadn't put my armour or tools in the chest because I thought I was safe. As soon as I threw the ender pear it put me in the void causing me to lose 50 levels and perfect gear.
