ps4 - stuck on "mojang studios" screen

previously ps4 minecraft crashed randomly with CE-34878-0 error over the last few days only when playing minecraft.  all other games work without error.  

Now minecraft doesnt even work.  Stuck on mojang studios screen.

 

This never happened until the new update.

game and ps4 system software are fully up to date.

have 230gb free space on console.
