Putting an item with an abnormal resolution in your inventory breaks the ui

I made a recource pack with an item that has an abnormal resolution (420 × 279), and when I put it in my hotbar all ui and entities disappeared (but could still be interacted with.) Leaving the world and returning didn't fix it. This also happened with previous versions, but would only do so if the item was dropped on the ground. (The screenshot below was taken on a flat world if that helps)
