Can't wait nether

I just went onto my offline world to check out the nether update. I'm playing on the Xbox one beta edition. Transported in fine and all was fine untill I tried to leave. None of the 3 portals I had worked and when I created a new portal that didn't work either. I died and respawned. Went back in, got my stuff and then the portal worked.
