I want to play minecraft multiplayer. PLEASE FIX THIS

Whenever I join my brothers Wi-Fi game he (being the host) logs off and I log off once we have finished playing. But whenever my brother logs back on he has his items when i log on i have nothing
Ive been having this problem for about 2 Months. PLEASE HELP!
