Stuck in nether

My son entered a nether portal in creative mode.  He did not note his location when he entered, and couldn't find the portal to get back.   He created a new one, but none of the portals he is creating in the nether will work.  They will light with the flint and steel. But he can just move through them, they will not teleport him back.
