dropping items before swiftly opening chests causes game to crash and deletes item

i was goofing around opening and closing chests in my secret bunker trying to open the chests only for a split second to quick check, and then i accidentally dropped my netherite max enchanted sword first thus caused my game to crash, and upon re-entering the world it was deleted.
