Portal glitch

This has happened to me twice where I break a shulker box next to a nether portal it goes through the portal and it disappears and I can't get it back. I've lost all my diamonds and stuff in those  shulker boxes and I can't get them back. And it only happens when I break a block and it goes through the portal. It doesn't disappear when I just drop something in there
