Does not load, gets stuck 80% through white Minecraft screen with grey bars, or sometimes stuck on red Mojang screen

I recently upgraded from 1.10.x to 1.16.2.0.   (Updated by Microsoft Store).   Since upgrading, it never progresses past white screen with Minecraft logo and grey bars.  The progress bar stops at about 80%.  The moving grey bars continue to move.    Occasionally however it never progresses past initial red Mojang screen (screen just stays red).   Same behavior after rebooting.    If you need logs or any other information let me know how to find them.  Thanks.
