Enchantment books disappearing

While I was out on a fishing trip, my friend decided to steal all my enchantment books, I put him on visitor mode to try and prevent him from getting them but it was too late. He didn't want to give them back so I killed him, and to my surprise he dropped nothing. My books simply disappeared.
