Lighting is really broken

So I was building on a mushroom island and changed the settings to always day so there was a thunder storm and after the thunder storm any where there was shade it was REALLY dark even when I put a lantern in the spot it was still dark I wasn’t using shaders or anything I had to use a light block to fix it.
