No pan cape and "Failed to load character (number 1-5)

When I left the Beta to play on servers, I knew you could get the Pan Cape. But when I equipped it in the Beta and unrolled, I wouldn't get the cape and any character slots that had the cape say "failed to load character" and then the number slot. When I refresh the character slot it repeats. Now I can't use certain character slots and don't have the pan cape. I had it a long time ago but lost it.
