Controller reach is shorter than touch controls

While pillaring a wall I noticed when I use my controller I can reach 3 blocks down but when I use touch controls I can reach 4 blocks. It seems to be a consistent difference cuz I'll cut into a tree with my controller, look straight and cut as far as it goes but if I hold down on my screen I can cut another log higher. Feels the same in creative, further reach for both but the controller is shorter.
