placed gold blocks disappear after using nether reactor

I had several gold blocks for my kitchen counter in my house. out of render distance of my house, i built the reactor. when i used it, it not only made the gold i provided it turn to obsidian, but it totally deleted the other blocks in my kitchen. REALLY pissed now...
