Items doesn't burn sometimes when thrown in lava.

I had to get rid of some items in my inventory.. So i placed down a bucket of lava and threw.. But some items just bounced back and were burning but not despawning.. I threw them again a couple of times but they bounced back again.. After many tries they despawned when I threw them in lava..,
