Curser chest problem

 When I was in beta survival  I went to open my chest and there was no cursor. So I couldn't tell which  item I was even on.  I quit playing Minecraft after that because it was just really frustrating not being able to quickly  get items out of the chest anymore.  I really love Minecraft so if you could please fix this problem especially in the beta version that would be nice!
