Keeps crashing at random times

My game will open fine, I join a friend's world, it will start to work fine, and then all of a sudden it will just freeze with no explanation and at random times. I wait five or so minutes to see if it will go back to normal but it doesn't and I end up having to reload Minecraft up all over again.
