Enchanted apple found in a ruined portal cannot be used to make a pattern.

I got an enchanted apple from the newly released ruined portal which couldn't be used to make the banner pattern. When I tried in creative mode, the ones I got from the creative tabs could be made into the pattern. Though they looked the same, the ruined portal ones were only able to provide the effects.
