Endermite is getting killed by dragons breath

Playing on my friends world I made an enderman farm using the endermite method but when I come back to the farm the endermite has been killed by some random dragons breath that appears. nobody has fought a dragon since I built the farm so I have no idea why there is dragons breath appearing.
