Zombie has a weird aggro range.

The zombie can sometimes see a player from a pretty far distance but also sometimes can see you at a low distance.

 

steps to reproduce:

1. Wait until it’s night time and be in survival
2. wait for zombies to spawn
3. Watch them aggro on to you.
