Nether Portal Overworld bug

So, I went into the Nether and explored for a while and decided to go back to the Overworld, but I lost my Portal, so I built another one. I went through and was immediately spawned on top of an ocean. Not sure if this is a bug or weird glitch, but I don't like it.
