Water not flowing properly

When placing water on top of a full block, the water is not flowing to the side. I flows in a straight line without any blocks altering the path. I can even remove the block behind the source block without any change to water flow. Everything around it are full blocks as well. (No waterlogged blocks) 

When you can please let me know if this is intentional as I am not familiar with water behaving in this way. Thank you.
