Carpet floats on air after being pushed sideways by piston

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Place piston facing carpet, on its side, one block above the ground so that the carpet will be pushed over an air block.
2. Activate piston with redstone signal.

What happens: The carpet is pushed and will stay in place in the air. If you place a block next to it, the carpet drops as an item, as expected.

What should happen: As soon as the carpet is pushed, it breaks.
