can't redeem key

i purchased minecraft java edition in 2012 and have played it casually ever since. my friends have recently started up a bedrock server and i need to download bedrock edition to join them. i was told that since i had bought minecraft so long ago i could get a bedrock key for free, but i can't seem to find the key anywhere on my mojang account. i was curious if i could get help with this?
