Gold can't smelted in furnace!

How do you do an update of the Nether where there is no way to melt gold ?! Are you lay or what? !! Man, I know it's beta but it was still an unforgivable mistake, there's no way to have decent gameplay in survival without gold equipment to go to the Nether.
