Game Freezing after leaving the nether

I entered the nether to mine for nether quartz, and it went well, but when I entered the portal to leave, the game got stuck on the "generating terrain" message. After waiting for some time, I did hear my player getting attacked and an explosion afterwards, meaning the game was still running, but I was still stuck on the generating terrain screen.
