Cannot join multiplayer world

Whenever I try to join a similar version Minecraft beta world with my friend through Xbox live, the game freezes for whoever is trying to join. This happens both ways between us. I cannot include any footage of it because it is unable to capture the process. Is there any sort of restart or redownload optipn encouraged to fix this issue?
