Only one mob at a time can go through Nether Portals

I'm pretty certain that this is a bug, only one mob at a time can go through Nether Portal. Even if multiple mobs went into the portal, only the first one who went in will be present in the Nether. It affected my guardian farm that uses many portals to send them into one location.

Is this a bug or intentional?
