RTX Beta Totem world Earth temple issue

In the Totems world, the first temple has a staircase to the left, going down the staircase and then to the left in the only open room, it looks like a puzzle where you're given blocks to place on a wall in what looks like it should be a mirror pattern. I am able to retrieve the blocks from the chest, but can't place the blocks anywhere. It's like they're locked in the inventory, I can't place them anywhere.
