Chicken takes 2 hits?!

When I'm on creative, and I spawn some chickens, I get an iron sword from the creative inventory and hit it. The chicken doesn't die. Same with chicks too. And sometimes it's the same with a fully charged bow. But this only happens sometimes but it's very rare (for me) it's actually on 0.8.1 as well
